Danny Dietz was a United States Navy SEAL who served with SEAL Team 10. He was born on January 26, 1984, in Aurora, Colorado, and grew up in Littleton, Colorado.
Dietz attended Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado, and graduated in 2002. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 2002.
Dietz completed Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training in 2004, earning his Navy SEAL Trident Pin. He was assigned to SEAL Team 10, based in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Dietz was killed in action on June 28, 2005, during the intense firefight in Operation Red Wings. His body was later recovered, and he was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross, the second-highest award for valor in action against an enemy of the United States.

The Mission
The mission was to gather intelligence on a Taliban leader named Ahmad Shah, who was known to be operating in the area. The SEAL team, consisting of Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, Gunner's Mate Second Class Danny Dietz, Sonar Technician Second Class Matthew Axelson, and Hospital Corpsman Second Class Marcus Luttrell, was inserted into the area via helicopter on June 28, 2005.
The Ambush
As the team began to conduct their reconnaissance, they were ambushed by a large group of Taliban fighters. The team took cover behind a nearby rock outcropping, but they were vastly outnumbered and outgunned. Despite being pinned down, the team managed to call for backup, but the response quickly arrived.
The Sacrifice
