Navy SEALs Know How To Keep The Flame Burning... Hopefully For The Right Reasons!
Admittedly, without asking my wife, and purely knowing fellow BUD/S graduates, these are the men who I would gladly lay my life down for. Their commitment for a common purpose is untouchable. And when they embrace that same iron-clad resolve for their marriage, it can not get any better.
Of course, as mentioned above and after 35 years of marriage, my wife may argue with my reasonings below, but since I and my many of my teammates are still in the fight for our wifes), lets roll with it. It all can't be that bad, right? After all, situation dictates!
Now, all above is assuming we're not factoring in alcohol, and the marriage vows are a priority from 'I do.'
Now, the good stuff. Navy Frogmen often bring qualities from their training and service that can translate well into relationships and family life. Here's why some might make exceptional partners:
- Commitment and loyalty - SEALs are trained to never quit and to be deeply loyal to their team. This mindset often extends to their marriages and families.
- Emotional resilience - Their training helps them develop mental toughness and the ability to stay calm under pressure, which can be valuable during relationship challenges.
- Problem-solving skills - SEALs are trained to adapt, overcome obstacles, and find solutions in difficult situations—skills that serve well when navigating life's challenges together.
- Appreciation for life's simple pleasures - After experiencing extreme conditions and separation during deployments, many develop a deep gratitude for everyday moments and time with loved ones.
- Protective instinct - Their natural protective nature extends to those they care about, creating a sense of security for their partners and families.
- Discipline and reliability - The structured discipline from military life often translates to dependability and follow-through at home.

That said, military service can also present unique relationship challenges, including dealing with PTSD, frequent deployments, and reintegration issues. The strongest marriages often involve mutual understanding, support, and communication about these challenges.
Every individual is different, and these qualities aren't exclusive to Navy Frogmen—nor do all SEALs necessarily make great partners just because of their service. Like any relationship, success depends on the specific individuals involved and their commitment to each other.
