SEAL Team 1 (One)
Overview
SEAL Team 1 is one of the nine SEAL Teams within the United States Navy's Naval Special Warfare Command (NSWC). The team is based in Coronado, California, and is one of the original three SEAL Teams established in 1962.
Mission
SEAL Team 1's primary mission is to conduct maritime special operations, including:
- Counter-Terrorism: Conducting operations to counter terrorist organizations and disrupt their networks.
- Direct Action: Conducting raids, ambushes, and other direct action missions to achieve strategic objectives.
- Special Reconnaissance: Conducting reconnaissance and surveillance operations to gather intelligence and prepare the battlefield.
- Foreign Internal Defense: Training and advising foreign military and security forces to improve their capabilities and enhance regional security.
Areas of Operation
SEAL Team 1 operates in the Pacific and Central Commands, focusing on the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
Notable Operations
SEAL Team ONE has participated in several notable operations, including:
- Operation Desert Storm (1991): SEALs from Team ONE conducted maritime special operations to support Kuwait's liberation.
- Operation Enduring Freedom (2001-2014): Team ONE deployed to Afghanistan, conducting counter-terrorism and direct action missions against al-Qaeda and Taliban forces.
- Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2011): SEALs from Team ONE conducted operations in Iraq, focusing on counter-terrorism and direct action missions.
Training and Qualifications
SEALs in Team ONE undergo rigorous training, including:
- Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training: A 24-week course that pushes students to their physical and mental limits.
- Advanced Training: SEALs receive advanced training in specialized skills, such as parachuting, combat tactics, and language training.
- Qualification Courses: SEALs must complete qualification courses in sniper training, advanced marksmanship, and demolitions.

I am an Air Force veteran from the Viet Nam years. I was not drafted but chose to join. For the last 2.5 years I h.ave been under the care of Vitas where the Doctors and Nurses take such wonderful care of us. Our local Viera VA has a provided such wonderful support from the Apollo Clinic. A few years ago I began receiving my disability which has been such a wonderful blessing. In the last few weeks our doctors felt that we needed to move into a 24/7 clinic.Expenses have risen but we are doing fine.
One of our great blessings has been a Navy Nurse that cares for us. I recently learned that Gary was not only a Navy Nurse but a Seal Team 1 members in viet Nam in 67’.’ He served in Nam several tours and was the Seal that caught a ride on a copter skid. He is a Servant among Servants and an example of a Navy Seal.
